Nondiscrimination/Equal educational opportunities with respect to students

No otherwise qualified student shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any district program or activity on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation or disability. This policy shall apply to access to and participation in educational activities, course offerings, athletics, counseling, employment assistance and extracurricular activities. Every student of this district shall have equal educational opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation or disability. A lack of English proficiency will not be a barrier to admission to or participation in district programs and activities including career and technical education programs.

Nondiscrimination/Equal employment opportunity with respect to employees and applicants for employment

It is the policy of the Board to provide equal employment opportunity. The district does not unlawfully discriminate in employment decisions, or the treatment of employees or applicants for employment, on the basis of race; color; religion; national origin; ancestry; sex; pregnancy, physical recovery from childbirth or a related condition; sexual orientation; marital status; veteran status; age; genetic information; or disability. The district’s commitment to equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination includes all areas of employment, including but not limited to job advertising, recruitment, selection, hiring, job training, compensation, fringe benefits, job classification, promotion and termination.

Board Policy AC sets forth the District’s nondiscrimination policy. Complaint procedures have been established for students, parents, employees and members of the public. The following persons have been identified as the compliance officers for the district:

For District students and community members: Johnny Terrell, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, 830 South Lincoln Street, Longmont, CO 80501, Phone: (303) 772-7700 x 57859, [email protected]

For District employees: Todd Fukai, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Educational Services Center, 395 South Pratt Parkway, Longmont, CO 80501, Phone: (303) 776-6200, [email protected]

APEX Homeschool Enrichment Program

St. Vrain Valley Schools does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation (including transgender status), or disability in its programs or activities. The APEX Homeschool Program is sponsored by the St. Vrain Schools and provides 1-day per week classes for students whose primary means of education is homeschooling with the parents being the students’ primary educators.  This program does not discriminate based upon any of the aforementioned reasons in its enrollment.

If a qualified homeschool student desires to apply to APEX and that student requires specific accommodations related to a disability in order to access the courses, APEX will engage in an individualized inquiry regarding the student’s needs. The inquiry will be a meeting which will include a minimum of the student’s parents and/or guardians, a district special education representative, and a representative from APEX. The individualized inquiry will be conducted to determine if and how the program may support a qualified student to participate in the APEX courses. APEX enrollment process affords qualified students with disabilities an equal opportunity for participation. Because APEX does not provide a full-time program, it does not provide the full range of IEP services that are provided elsewhere in the District. If your student has or needs an IEP, please contact Laura Hess, the Executive Director of Special Education at [email protected], for assistance in finding an appropriate placement for your student.

Charter School Enrollment

Enrollment in charter schools is available to all students, including students with disabilities, and information about disabilities will not be requested until a student has been admitted and enrolled in a charter school. For questions regarding the admission and enrollment of students with disabilities in charter schools, you may contact Laura Hess, Executive Director of Special Education at [email protected] or 720-652-8218.
