Early Summer
At the start of summer, encourage your exiting seventh grader to stay engaged with a variety of engaging and interactive activities. Early Summer resources provide opportunities to review what they’ve learned, explore new interests, and build confidence—all while having fun and making the most of the beginning of break.
English Language Arts
7th Grade Exploration SORA Board
- Explore a variety of fun reading and writing activities to keep your child learning over the summer.

Sora is the district digital library collection that all students can access. Learn how to add Sora from ClassLink using the Getting Started with Sora document.
Activities:
- Set a personal reading goal
- Customize your lending periods
- Create a custom reading list and add at least three titles.

- Embark on a journey that takes you all over the world. Sign up for a free account to play.
- Using Google Earth 360, find clues to help you pinpoint where in the world the images are from. Look for clues on the landscape to help you determine the location.
Late Summer
As summer comes to a close, help your rising eighth grader get ready for the year ahead with resources designed to reinforce important skills and spark excitement for new learning. Writing Prompts
- Write a letter to your future self, reflecting on your current understanding of who you and and what you hope will shape you in the years to come.
- Research how the advance of technology has influences the way young people explore and express their identities.
- After researching, create a poster that explains the differences between personal identity and social identity.
- Create a public service announcement using iMovie about the positive and/or negative influence social media has on building a strong sense of identity among young people.
Creative Connections
- Create a visual representation using Canva or another digital tool that expresses different aspects of your identity.
- Photo Scavenger Hunt: Take 5 photos that represent what is most important to who you are. Write a short caption for each and use Canva to create a digital collage.
- Create a podcast episode using Garage Band where you interview different people about what identity means to them.
- Using Book Creator, write a short scene where two characters with very different identities interact. What do they learn from each other?
