Overview

We believe that a strong foundation for success in today’s complex, globalized world requires a dynamic approach to curriculum, instruction, and assessment. We leverage advanced technologies, resources, and pedagogies to ensure our curriculum remains dynamic, relevant, engaging, and fosters deep understanding that transcends the classroom. By providing access to high-quality, multi-sourced content, we not only improve the learner experience but also promote world-class academic opportunities. Our educators are champions of innovative, learner-centered, as well as culturally and linguistically relevant instruction. They create classrooms that foster robust academic discourse, exploration of multiple perspectives, local and global collaboration with peers and experts, engaging learning journeys for each student, and critical self-reflection and peer analysis. Intentional collection of learner data forms the backbone of our responsive learning environment, providing valuable insights from diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments, indicators of student interests, and personal growth. Our educators advance student agency by developing student metacognition, self-awareness, self-monitoring, and self-directive skills and track their own academic journeys and direct their next course of action.

Our Mission

The Department of Assessment, Curriculum & Instruction leads the district-wide development of rigorous, relevant, and high-quality curriculum, the implementation of best instructional and assessment practices to sustain high student achievement, and the accountability system to sustain student achievement and global success.

In order to achieve our mission, we will:

  • Develop a world-class, guaranteed and viable, standards-based curriculum, instructional framework, and comprehensive assessment system to advance excellence, by design, for each and every student.
  • Unpack what students need to know, understand, and be able to do, and clearly identify what success looks like to produce a shared understanding of grade-level learning expectations.
  • Empower teachers to advance student learning with research-based instructional strategies, high-quality resources, emerging technologies, and a sophisticated suite of valid, reliable, and relevant assessments.
  • Provide knowledge, guidance, and support to buildings so that they develop and sustain highly effective continuous improvement systems that demonstrate their deep understanding of their students’ strengths and needs and viable action plans to meet their goals.
  • Support all school libraries so that students graduate as critical, ethical, and independent users of information.
