Food Rescue programs aim to reduce food waste within schools by repurposing eligible unused foods. In school cafeterias kids can place items they do not want on a food rescue table and those who would like can grab items from the table. This aims to reduce food waste and provides additional foods to those who struggle with food insecurity.

Mrs. Potter’s 5th grade class at Eagle Crest Elementary developed the vision to begin Food Rescue Programs in the St. Vrain to reduce food waste during lunches.

St. Vrain Valley School District is partnered with EcoCycle to implement recycling and composting practices to reduce the amount of food waste in schools through Green Star School Programs. Through the Green Star Program, schools receive trainings on recycling and composting to reach towards the goal of zero waste and spread environmental awareness amongst students.
