SVVS partners with respected, CSEIT certified, J-1 foreign exchange organizations across the country. Through local representatives, we proudly open the doors of our high schools to students from around the world, offering them an unforgettable, immersive experience within our district and community.
J-1 Visa – Organization Approval Process
J-1 Foreign exchange organizations seeking approval to place students in SVVSD must submit their application between August 15th and October 1st of the year prior to wanting to place students. Please contact us to initiate the approval process and be placed on the review list. Only after formal approval by the Board of Education can the organization proceed with the student application and placement process.

J-1 Visa Student Placement Approval Process
Per our board policies all foreign exchange students must:
- Be a student in good standing in the high school they are attending in their country of residence.
- Have not yet completed the equivalent of 12th grade in their country of residence.
- Submit all required documentation for approval to the district via their organization’s representative within the application window. (January 1 – June 1)
- Attend the first day of school.
- Must not reach the age of 19 prior to September 15th of the year in which they apply to be enrolled.

Foreign Exchange J-1 Student Application Documents
F-1 Visa Student Placement Approval Process
Per our board policies F-1 exchange students must:
- Be sponsored by a relative or family friend within the school district
- Reimburse the district in advance for the cost of their educational year
- Attend the first day of school
- Have not yet completed the equivalent of 12th grade in their country of residence.
- Must not reach the age of 19 prior to September 15th of the year in which they apply to be enrolled.
