The start of a new academic year is one of my favorite times to visit our schools and talk with our students, families, teachers and staff. Our hallways are filled with a palpable optimism and drive to continue our momentum toward the highest levels of academic growth and success.
Being accepted to one United States military academy is an honor, but acceptance to all four is rare and exceptional.
Frederick High School graduate Julia Wyatt, 17, was accepted to every college she applied to, including seven public universities, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
When she found out she was accepted, Julia said she felt “a little shock but for the most part I simply felt proud.

Clutching flowers, balloons and umbrellas, family members filed into St. Vrain Valley School District gymnasiums to watched their loved ones cross the stage and receive their high school diplomas on Saturday morning.
District spokesman Matt Wiggins said Friday that roughly 1,800 students would graudate from St. Vrain Valley schools on Saturday. Of those, 327 students will graduate with a 4.0 GPA, according to SVVSD numbers.
At Silver Creek High School, straggling seniors jogged past the families and friends, pulling on their caps and gowns as they went.
St. Vrain Valley Schools’ Nutrition Services is gearing up for the 13th Annual Summer Meal Program. Many families rely on free and reduced lunch programs throughout the school year. This program was developed to extend support to those children in need of regular nutrition. Additionally, for every meal served, participants will be entered into a drawing for a free iPad.
Meals will be provided to all children ages 18 and under; registration within SVVSD is not required. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Adult meals are $3.50.

This week signifies another important milestone in the lives of our students. This is not only the end of the 2016-2017 school year – one of the most outstanding in district history – but this week, approximately 5,500 preschool, fifth and eighth-grade students will celebrate their continuation to a new chapter of their educational journey with St. Vrain Valley Schools, and perhaps even more momentous, over 2,000 St. Vrain Valley graduates will receive their high school diploma.
As St. Vrain Valley Schools continues to advance our programs that support our youngest learners, we are proud to announce a new partnership with the LENA Research Foundation and the OUR Center in Longmont that will prepare infants and toddlers (0-3 years) for school by encouraging parents to talk and engage more with their children.

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley celebrated the 10th Annual Tribute to Teachers event on May 5, 2017 to recognize this year’s top St. Vrain Valley School District Teachers. Over 500 people were in attendance to recognize the 155 Encore Award nominees. Nominations are submitted by members of the St. Vrain Valley community including students, parents and colleagues.
