Teaching: A Career Worth Choosing

By the end of her first year teaching, Mary Kusbel expected to feel exhausted. Instead, she felt energized. “It’s really easy when you’re on social media to see people focusing on the challenges facing public education or saying teacher burnout is at an all-time high,” Kusbel said. “That made me nervous going into my first year.” But as the school year progressed, she found herself feeling increasingly certain she had chosen the right profession. “I have more energy at the end of the year than I did when I started,” she said. “I feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.”
