Coal Ridge Middle School is expanding its music program with new opportunities for students to develop their musical skills and connect with fellow musicians. This year, Band Director Kyle Waggoner launched a pep band and drumline club, which meets Wednesdays after school. The program gives students a goal to work toward while connecting classroom instruction with the excitement of performing at school events. An advanced orchestra club, which meets Tuesdays after school, provides another opportunity for students to deepen their musical experience.

Waggoner said student interest and consistent attendance have helped the new club build momentum. The ensembles also create opportunities for middle school students to prepare for high school music programs and learn alongside older musicians. “I am excited to continue seeing this program grow and excel,” Waggoner said. “Every day we strive to learn a little bit more about music and to have fun while we learn.”
With more opportunities on the horizon, Coal Ridge hopes to welcome additional students into its music program and continue building a strong foundation for future musical experiences.
