The Lyons Lions are state champions!
In a championship performance defined by determination, teamwork, and an unmistakable sense of joy, the Lyons Middle/Senior High School softball team captured the 2026 Colorado Class 3A State Championship on Saturday, October 24, defeating D’Evelyn High School 10–3.
While the final score reflected the Lions’ dominance on the field, the story of their championship extends far beyond the runs scored. It is a story of a team whose success was built on years of friendship, dedication, leadership, and a culture of unwavering support for one another.
From the opening inning, the Lions played with the confidence of a team ready for the moment. They jumped out to an impressive 8–0 lead, combining strong play with the energy and enthusiasm that have become hallmarks of this team.
Even with a state championship on the line, the Lyons dugout was filled with smiles, cheers, and familiar chants. Teammates celebrated one another, encouraged each other through every play, and embraced the opportunity to compete together on the biggest stage of their season.
That spirit was especially evident when the Lions faced their greatest challenge of the game.
After building their commanding lead, Lyons saw D’Evelyn rally with three runs in the sixth inning, narrowing the score to 8–3. With momentum potentially shifting, the Lions responded with the same composure and confidence that had carried them throughout the championship.
There was no hesitation. No visible doubt.
Instead, Lyons answered with two additional runs, extending its lead to 10–3 before closing out the game and securing the state title.
The victory was a testament to the leadership of the team’s seniors, who helped set the tone for a championship season. Their experience, commitment, and example provided a foundation for success, while contributions from players across the roster demonstrated the strength of a team united by a common goal.
Behind the Lions’ success was a dedicated coaching staff that fostered a culture of confidence, teamwork, and trust. Their leadership helped create an environment where players could embrace challenges, support one another, and find joy in the game. That foundation was evident throughout the championship, reflecting the lasting impact of coaches who invest in their athletes both on and off the field.
Equally powerful was the support surrounding the Lions throughout their championship journey.
Families, fellow students, school administrators, and members of the Lyons community came together to cheer on the team, creating an atmosphere that reflected the pride and connection of a close-knit school community.
Their presence served as a reminder that championships are rarely achieved alone. Behind every successful team are years of encouragement, countless hours of practice, dedicated coaches, supportive families, and a school community that believes in its students.
For Lyons, Saturday’s victory represented more than a championship trophy. It was a celebration of the relationships, traditions, and experiences that make high school athletics such an important part of the student experience.
The Lions demonstrated that competing at the highest level and finding joy in the game are not mutually exclusive. Even under the pressure of a state championship, they played with enthusiasm, celebrated each other’s successes, and embraced every moment together.
Congratulations to the Lyons Lions softball team, their coaches, families, and the entire Lyons community on an outstanding achievement and a well-deserved 2026 Class 3A State Championship!
