Heather Moore, a STEM teacher at Erie Middle School, has been named the Colorado Association of Science Teachers’ 2026 Excellence in Secondary Science Teaching Awardee.
Moore teaches Intro to Tech, Computer Science, and Gateway to STEM, bringing years of science classroom experience to the school’s elective offerings. According to Principal Andrea Smith, that background adds rigor and intentionality to students’ learning.
While the award recognizes Moore’s teaching, Smith emphasized that her contributions extend beyond her own classroom.
“I am really proud of the work that Heather has done in the classroom, but I am most impressed by her constant reflection and willingness to partner with our leadership team as we build a more systemic and streamlined approach to teaching our STEM electives,” Smith said.
Through that collaboration, Moore is helping Erie Middle strengthen how its STEM courses connect and support student learning. Her willingness to reflect on her practice and refine instruction makes her a valued partner in that work.
The recognition celebrates Moore’s contributions to science education and the expertise she brings to Erie Middle’s STEM classrooms every day.
