From my earliest memories, I knew I wanted to be an educator. Thirty-eight years later, that calling still guides me, and my conviction that public schools are among the most important institutions in America has only deepened. They are the heartbeat of every community they serve, and are the gathering places, resource hubs, and centers of tradition and shared identity that build a community. And they remain the single greatest pathway to opportunity this country has ever created.
