SVVSD Innovation Center to host STEM event

Elementary and middle school students and their families are invited to celebrate STEM at St. Vrain Valley’s Innovation Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The event will include interactive stations and parent tech talks. Attendees can meet Rosie the Tarantula from the Butterfly Pavilion and experience virtual reality with UCHealth. The Mobile Innovation Lab also will be on display, and visitors can explore the different programs at the Innovation Center and view students’ design guild prototypes.

The Innovation Center is at 33 Quail Road, Longmont.

Three students finalists in a STEM biodiversity competition

Teams of students in grades 5-9 from around the country have designed STEM projects that address biodiversity issues for the OurEcho Challenge hosted by Earth Echo International. The Longmont-based team, Fungi Frogs, has been announced as a finalist for a $5,000 grant. 

Trevor White, 16, Blake Wolver, 15 and Reed Sneider, 11 are students in the St. Vrain Valley School District and although they hadn’t met before their frog project, their similar interest in protecting the environment joined them together. 

Timberline PK-8 hosts Cinco de Mayo celebration on Friday

Timberline PK-8 will host its annual Cinco de Mayo event from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the school, 233 E. Mountain View Ave., Longmont.

Families are invited to gather for food, carnival games and student performances. At 5 p.m., elementary students will sing while accompanied by the middle school Mariachi band. After, student dancers representing grades K-8 will showcase their authentic clothing and traditional dances.

Join Us for Our Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Timberline PK-8

Timberline PK-8 is excited to announce that we will be hosting our annual Cinco de Mayo event this Friday, May 5, 4:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m. The event promises to be an evening filled with food, fun, and fantastic student performances. Guests will be treated to tacos, hotdogs, pizza, snacks, and elote that will be set up in the cafeteria. Families can gather and enjoy their meals while participating in a variety of carnival games.

The highlight of the event will be the student performances. Starting at 5:00 pm, elementary students will take the stage to sing a few songs, and they will be joined by our talented middle school Mariachi band until 5:30 p.m. Following that, student dancers will showcase their authentic clothing and traditional dances from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. This group comprises students from kindergarten through 8th grade.

The event is free to attend, and tickets to purchase food or play carnival games will be available for just one dollar each. All proceeds go to the Timberline PK-8 PTO, which supports school events and initiatives that benefit our students.

High school students make connections at SVVSD career fair

In its second year, the St. Vrain Valley School District Career and Job Fair gave hundreds of high schoolers an opportunity Friday to explore what their futures might hold.

The fair was split into morning and afternoon sessions, held simultaneously at the SVVSD Innovation Center, 33 Quail Road, and the Career Elevation and Technology Center, 1200 S. Sunset St. UCHealth, Amazon, the city of Longmont, Aims Community College, and the U.S. Navy were just five vendors out of dozens manning booths at both locations.

Longmont high schools drumline places sixth at Winter Guard world championship Friday night

The Longmont combined schools drumline placed sixth at the Winter Guard International World Championships, the first time the group has made it to the finals of the competition in over 10 years.

After a strong performance in the semifinals Friday morning, the drumline was one of 15 groups in its class competing in the finals that night, held in Dayton, Ohio.
