Silver Creek High School has been named a Disney on Broadway School of Excellence, recognizing the school’s exceptional student-led involvement in theatre production and its commitment to creativity, leadership, and student engagement.
Created in 2024 to celebrate 30 years of Disney on Broadway, the School of Excellence program recognizes middle and high schools across the United States that demonstrate outstanding student involvement in theatrical disciplines, including stagecraft, direction, performance, choreography and design.
As part of the recognition, winning schools receive free licensing and production materials to produce a Disney musical during the 2026-2027 school year, along with exclusive educational webinars featuring industry professionals. Silver Creek will celebrate this honor by performing Disney’s High School Musical on November 12, 13, and 14 along with two other unique productions throughout the year.
“This opportunity is especially exciting because it reflects how much our theatre program has grown, not only in the number of students involved, but in the number of students stepping forward as leaders,” said Tracy Knick, the Silver Creek Theater Director. “Bringing Disney’s High School Musical to Silver Creek is a wonderful way to celebrate that growth while giving even more students the opportunity to discover their voice, talents, and potential as leaders.”
Alongside Disney’s High School Musical, The first production in the fall will be a theatrical experience unlike anything the school has done before: the 48-Hour Musical, Mamma Mia!
In true 48-hour fashion, student performers will be cast on Thursday, Aug. 27, and take the stage just two days later for a fully staged performance at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. The fast-paced production will showcase student creativity, collaboration, and adaptability as performers and production teams bring the musical to life in a short timeframe.
Through its upcoming productions, Silver Creek students will have opportunities to strengthen their skills, collaborate across theatrical disciplines and take greater ownership of the creative process. The school’s recognition as a Disney on Broadway School of Excellence provides an opportunity to celebrate the program’s growth while inviting even more students and community members to experience the power of theatre.
