Walk into any St. Vrain robotics program – be it after-school clubs at the elementary level, secondary classes, or competitive tournaments – and you will be immediately struck by captivated engagement. Students (and teachers) are busily and eagerly developing knowledge and skills in computer science, coding, engineering, design and technology, mathematics, and more. What’s more, they’re working together as creative thinkers, reflective learners, team players, and self-managers.

Longmont fourth graders talked with International Space Station astronaut Nick Hague on Tuesday with the help of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Amateur Radio Club.
Students in the club set up the live, Earth-to-space HAM radio call by connecting to Florida, which then connected to Italy and finally to the International Space Station as it orbited over Africa and Europe.

What better way to facilitate and make the most of opportunities than with effective communication? Shared language is key. Hugging the northwest face of Northridge Elementary School, there is a quiet place. Tomatoes, peppers, and other plants flourish in raised beds, with space for more to come in upcoming seasons. Wide, flat-topped rocks form beckoning seats in an inviting circle. Modest and accessible signs mark twelve wellness stations promoting mindfulness, movement, and authentic outdoor learning. Here, there is diversity and unity; peaceful calm and constant growth.
