St. Vrain Valley Schools: Competitive Advantage Through Extraordinary Academic Learning and Preparation
May 21, 2017, 10:17am | St Vrain Valley School District
As we move towards the end of another highly successful school year, it will be an honor to join our Board of Education, principals, parents, teachers and staff in recognizing the unwavering drive, strength of character and rigorous academic preparation that has propelled approximately 2,000 students to the day of their high school graduation. The thunderous applause that will follow them as they walk across the stage to receive their diploma is not only a testament to their academic achievements, but a symbol of our community’s enduring commitment to the continued advancement of our students and schools.
This class of St. Vrain Valley graduates, and the families, neighbors, friends and community who have championed their success, have played a critical role in shaping the high-quality education and extraordinary learning opportunities afforded to every student in our district. As St. Vrain Valley Schools has grown over the past decade, we have worked to meet the expectations of our students, parents, teachers, staff, business communities and higher education partners to design learning systems that will ensure our students are highly productive and engaged citizens in a complex, globalized world. We are preparing our students for their future by giving them a strong competitive advantage and cultivating a drive for learning and continued growth.
Today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce demand an education that is rooted in rigorous traditional academics while also leveraging modern, cutting-edge technologies and robust opportunities to create a truly personalized educational experience. We are investing in our students’ future as we foster a culture of energy and distinction that advances 21st-century learning.
Our school district has earned a national reputation for accelerating student achievement through the delivery of immersive learning opportunities designed to ignite students’ passions and enhance a strong academic foundation. For example, our 2017 graduates accessed leading technologies through enrollment in high-quality instructional focus academics in Energy, Engineering and Aerospace, Medical and BioScience, Leadership, STEM and Visual and Performing Arts. Additionally, they took more rigorous courses than any previous graduating class, including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Honors and concurrent enrollment through partnerships with Colorado State University, the University of Colorado, Front Range Community College and others.
Members of the Class of 2017 have received many prestigious recognitions including Boettcher Scholarships, Daniels Scholarships, National Merit semifinalists and finalists, All-State athletes, All-State musicians, and thousands of college acceptance letters from institutions across the country including many Ivy League schools, military academies and other highly competitive colleges and universities. We are incredibly proud of what our students have accomplished in a time of increasing academic rigor, expanding graduation requirements and the highest expectations of leadership, community and citizenship.
As we celebrate the many achievements of our students, St. Vrain Valley Schools continues to enhance the learning experience by expanding opportunities across our district, including this year’s launch of our first Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program. P-TECH is a newer educational model that allows students to earn a no-cost Associate degree concurrently with their high school diploma while receiving mentorship and internship opportunities with industry partners. This unique program supports the creation of a dynamic workforce through the development of intergenerational talent, and gives every student the framework and resources they need to achieve a postsecondary education. The ongoing support of our community has been critical to ensuring the development and success of innovative programs such as P-TECH.
With the passage of the 2016 bond, our community has demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the highest quality education for every current and future student in our district. This public investment will allow for the construction of three new schools, enhance school safety and expand classroom space throughout our district, giving our students educational environments that will support their academic advancement. Additionally, this summer we will break ground on a new facility for our nationally recognized Innovation Center that will serve every school in our district. This state-of-the-art program will provide infrastructure, resources and focused opportunities for students to interact with industry experts, gain professional work experiences and pursue the development of their own ideas and ventures.
With so much to celebrate throughout St. Vrain Valley Schools, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our students, families, teachers, staff and community. Thank you for your incredible support in ensuring the success of our children and community.
Don Haddad, Ed.D.
Superintendent, St. Vrain Valley Schools
