As parents prepare to send their children off to school they usually share inspiring words of wisdom. From have a good day, to be a good friend to learn something new today - parents try and set the stage for a good day at school.

Learn something new today - By nature teachers are curious and they are constantly learning, diving into professional development sessions and figuring out the new best practices as they conquer academic standards in the classroom.

Silver Creek Student Wins Boettcher Scholarship

Jayson Brubaker, a senior at Silver Creek High School, has been selected as a recipient of the Boettcher Foundation Scholarship.
Boettcher Scholarships recognize Colorado's top students by providing them with the funds to attain an excellent in-state education and access to additional opportunities to enrich their time in college and beyond.

Erie High will graduate first engineering program seniors

Katie Huonder considered becoming a doctor but didn't think she could deal with the "blood and guts" that goes with the job.

Enrolling in Erie High School's new engineering program as a sophomore, she found an alternative option, biomedical engineering.

"Instead of being a doctor, I figured I could design the tools," she said.

Prairie Ridge Elementary School launches Red Shirt Program

Prairie Ridge fifth graders Miles Anna and Drew Hershey didn’t know each other when the school year began but now they’re teaching each other basketball tricks and high-fiving in the halls between classes.

Miles and Drew are among the first students to participate in Prairie Ridge Elementary School’s Red Shirt Program, which launched in the fall.

Legacy Elementary students work with local columnist to produce school newspaper

Eight fourth grade girls at Legacy Elementary School launched the first edition of the school newspaper this spring with the help of a local journalist.

The newspaper, Legacy Lion Tales, was the result of a mentorship program with Longmont Times-Call columnist Betty Heath.

Two students from each fourth grade class were chosen by their teachers to participate in the program.

Budding entrepreneurs wrung their hands, went over their market research one more time, then made their business pitch to a panel of discerning financial sharks Thursday afternoon.
