St. Vrain students partner with the Denver Zoo to save an endangered frog in Peru

At St. Vrain Valley School District’s Innovation Center several students are crowded around tables with music playing quietly in the background. Today they are working in two teams to continue work on two remote operated vehicle (ROV) kits, called Telma and Tobius. When the project first started with the Denver Zoo, four students from Skyline High School made up the team who were approached during a lunch period to talk about the project.

Rigorous coursework and instruction are instrumental in preparing students for highly competitive admissions and post-secondary education programs. St. Vrain Valley high schools are taking significant steps to align curricula and graduation standards with the expectations of post-secondary educational institutions, while at the same time giving students opportunities to get a step ahead by completing college courses while in high school.

Hundreds turn out for chilly Happy Smackah in Longmont

McIntosh Lake was surrounded by 3.1 miles of smiles Saturday morning, as hundreds of participants turned out for the annual Happy Smackah 5K fun run.

The sixth annual event — which each year raises money for a St. Vrain Valley School District staff member and/or student who is in need because of a health-related hardship — was expected to draw 800 participants who had registered in advance.

April Event Honors District’s Young Women for Aspirations in Computing (AiC)

St. Vrain Valley Schools is pleased to announce that nine young women from the district were individually honored last month at the University of Colorado (CU Boulder) by the National Center for Women in Information Technology (NCWIT).

Education Foundation of the St. Vrain Valley hosts 9th Annual Tribute to Teachers

On Friday, May 6, the Education Foundation of St. Vrain Valley hosted its 9th Annual Tribute to Teachers. Educators, administrators and community sponsors gathered to honor those teachers nominated by students, parents and their peers. The event’s “Marquee Sponsors” were St. Vrain Valley Schools and King Chevrolet, Buick, GMC. Entertainment was provided by the Silver Creek High School Fiddlers and the Coal Ridge Jazz Band.

100-Mile Club Founder and CEO Visits St. Vrain Valley Schools

Kara Lubin, CEO and Founder of the 100-Mile Club, flew in from California to spend two days visiting St. Vrain Valley Schools. Kara began the 100-Mile Club during her second year as an elementary teacher in the Corona-Norco Unified School District in CA. The year was 1992. In 2007, the 100-Mile Club became a non-profit organization, and the rest is, as they say, history.

Physical Activity Grant Gets Everyone Moving.

Niwot High senior chosen as Boettcher scholar

Rohan Baishya, a senior at Niwot High School, is one of 42 high school seniors chosen for a Boettcher Foundation scholarship.

He plans to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Longmont High School Drumline makes World Championship semifinals

The Longmont High School Drumline advanced to the World Championships semifinals in Dayton, Ohio, after finishing third in its group of 15 in Thursday's preliminary competition.

The top four in each of the four groups moved on to the semifinals, which take place on Friday. The finals follow on the same day.
