Longmont elementary students at Eagle Crest join Niwot Elementary in helping Ugandan children

Eagle Crest art teacher Mandy Adams got the fourth-grade class settled in on Monday morning, then started quizzing them about their sister school in Uganda.

"Can anyone pronounce the village where our sister school is?" she asked as the 9- and 10-year-olds started trying to say Nkugulutale.

Adams pulled a piece of paper out of her pocket and sounded out the five-syllable word for the students.

Westview, Longs Peak middle school students to debut original piece of music

On Feb. 22, Longmont middle school students will be the first people to play an original piece of music inspired by education activist Malala Yousafzai.

Erie resident Michelle Lonsinger's basement buzzed with activity Wednesday afternoon as a bevy of elementary school students practiced maneuvering their robots around a field and manipulating plastic rings.
 
On Saturday, more than 250 elementary and middle school students will show up at Erie Middle School for two VEX robotics tournaments.

Naming, Mascot & Color Selection for New Schools

St. Vrain Valley Schools invites the community to give input into the naming, mascot and color selection of our two new schools opening in the Fall.

Students, parents and community members will have the opportunity to submit their suggestions for the school name, mascot and colors from February 1-19.  

Longmont's Main Street School engages in The Great Kindness Challenge

For the first time, about 100 students at Longmont's Main Street School participated in the national Great Kindness Challenge, a weeklong bullying prevention initiative.

As part of the challenge, students from kindergarten to adults in Main Street School's special education programs worked to spread kindness around the school and community.

St. Vrain Valley board approves enrollment boundaries for new Erie, Frederick schools

Parents looking to make school choice decisions or get more involved in planning for St. Vrain Valley's two new schools can move forward now that official school boundaries are in place.

The St. Vrain Valley School District on Wednesday unanimously approved enrollment boundaries for both the 900-student PK-8 school in Erie and the 525-student elementary school in Frederick's Wyndham Hill neighborhood.

St. Vrain schools participate in Computer Science Education Week

Two Skyline High juniors brought the hovercraft model they built in a STEM Academy class to Longmont's Alpine Elementary on Monday for a demonstration.

Petra Osborn and Rebecca Rauschmayer set up in a hallway, talking about how they built it from a prototype out of wood, a tarp, duct tape, a leaf blower for power and a fan to steer.

Then they inflated it and showed how it moves forward, noting it was hampered by the hall's carpet but works well on smooth floors.
