Hispanic Education Foundation honors 17 SVVSD scholars

The Hispanic Education Foundation has handed out over 475 scholarships to St. Vrain Valley School District students since 1989. This year they will be handing out another 17 to local students.

"We're a small organization, but we're a lot of committed individuals and members of the community who care about the future of Longmont and the St. Vrain Valley," said Longmont resident and Boulder firefighter Matt Zavala, who serves on the board.

According to Bob Norris, another board member, many of the students that receive scholarships are the first generation in their family to pursue secondary education. The foundation also allows students who have previously received a scholarship to re-apply for more funding as they continue their education.
