'Sense of stewardship': Boulder County's E Movement engages students through volunteerism

Excitement ramps up around the first Wednesday of every month, signifying a move from the classroom to the outside world for the children of Lyons Elementary School.

An environmental education cooperative, aptly named the E Movement, is changing the way children learn in kindergarten through fifth-grade levels around Boulder County.

St. Vrain Valley students win $10,000 grant to design emergency beacon system

A team of 13 St. Vrain Valley School District students taking senior design will have a lot more money than usual for their big class project.

The students, who attend Erie and Longmont's Skyline high schools, recently won a $10,000 grant to design an affordable, portable emergency beacon system.

St. Vrain Students Get Early Integration of Technology

Students from St. Vrain Valley Schools' Innovation Center and Indian Peaks Elementary were recently featured on CBS 4 in Denver.

As the U.S. economy becomes more digitized, St. Vrain Valley School District has transformed it’s curriculum to emphasize STEM classes. District officials have integrated computers into every classroom. Students learn to innovate within the science, technology, engineering and math fields. And the district built an Innovation Center which emphasized project-based learning in partnership with business.


Longmont's Silver Creek High School hosts Colorado appeals court

Government students at Longmont's Silver Creek High School got a firsthand lesson on the judicial system on Monday, listening to oral arguments in two appeals court cases in their auditorium. After the arguments, the lawyers and judges answered students' questions. A small group of students also ate lunch with the judges. One student asked the judges about the dress code, noting they all wore the same color gray suits. The judges joked that they "shared an email" to coordinate. Another asked the lawyers if they get nervous before arguing a case, with one admitting that he used to throw up before trials.

The St. Vrain Valley School District's enrichment program for homeschoolers, APEX, is looking for its own home for the next school year after five years of renting space in churches.

Students from St. Vrain Valley Schools to receive prestigious Lemelson-MIT Grant

The InvenTeam initiative, now in its 15th year, inspires youth to invent technological solutions to real-world problems of their own choosing. The 2017–2018 InvenTeams are comprised of students, teachers and community mentors that will pursue year-long invention projects.

St. Vrain Valley School District demonstrating one-to-one initiative with site visits

Niwot High students in honors biology rotated through stations, building a biomacromolecule at one, solving a puzzle on their iPads at another and completing lab work at a third.

Their teacher, Caroline Moore, spent most of her time working with students at the lab station.

She checked the rest of their work online, with the student teams building the molecule taking a picture of their completed model, then labeling the parts using the notability app.
