Are your notification settings ready for the Colorado winter?

We all know the rituals: turn your pajamas inside out and wear them backwards, put a spoon under your pillow and finally dance the most epic snow dance around. These practices have been carried down through generations as students go to bed hoping for a fresh blanket of snow in the morning. For administrators in St. Vrain, it is a little more hands on with a strong focus on the safety of our students and staff.

When snow is predicted, there are many factors that assist our leadership in making the decision. The following four factors are considered when snow is predicted.
  1. The district has a team of individuals that monitor bus routes to ensure our busses can safely transport students to and from school.
  2. We consider whether it is safe for our staff to be working in the snow and inclement weather conditions.
  3. Our Operations and Maintenance department determines if our snow removal team can remove all of the snow to ensure students and staff can safely access our buildings
  4. St. Vrain has a strong partnership with county and state officials who we consult prior to making a decision to close or delay schools.

When is a school closure/cancellation decision made?
When forecasts are definitive, the district will close or delay school with as much advance notice as possible. When forecasts are less definitive, we will monitor conditions closely and make every effort to communicate with families no later than 5:30 a.m. on the school day in question. When St. Vrain closes school due to inclement weather, district offices, community schools programs, transportation and other activities, both in- and out-of-district, are also canceled.

How do we notify parents and guardians?
We do our best to communicate with our families and community. Parents and guardians will receive weather communications via phone, text and email based on their notification settings in Infinite Campus. Closure information is also communicated through social media, the district website, the Newsline and local media outlets.

Where can I change my settings?
It is important to routinely verify and adjust these settings to ensure you are receiving all important school and district communications through your desired media.
