10,000 entries expected in SVVSD Student Art Show
The St. Vrain Valley School District's 2016 Student Art Show begins Tuesday at the Boulder County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building, with winners looking to be featured in a special exhibition in the Downtown Longmont Creative District.
The first- to third-place winners in each category will be displayed at the Arts Longmont Gallery from April 22 to May 14.
The relationship with Arts Longmont started only last year after the school district and Arts Longmont had worked for several years to figure out a way to connect the two organizations, said Rob Berry, executive director of fine arts for the district.
"They came up with this idea about selecting a few pieces in the different mediums and then being able to show them in several of the galleries downtown," Berry said. "They also select a winner. They talked about, in the future, hopefully attaching a scholarship to it."
Grade categories receiving awards will be K through two, three through five, six through eight and nine through 12. A jury panel of local artists, gallery owners, university instructors and creative business owners will judge the work. The winning art will be featured at the Discover the District event on May 13.
