Dear St. Vrain Valley Community,
It has been an outstanding start to the academic year and I want to thank our students, families, teachers, staff and other partners for continuing to support St. Vrain Valley Schools’ drive for excellence in serving our community and advancing public education.
Insurance - Students
Insurance can help pay for injuries students might sustain while at school or while participating in school activities. The District encourages parents/guardians to evaluate their insurance coverage levels to determine if they have adequate insurance protection for any injuries their children might sustain while at school or while participating in school activities.
Student Insurance Programs
The District does not directly sell or offer accident, health, or dental insurance for students. However, the District has selected Nationwide Insurance Company to offer student insurance programs. Various plans and options are offered through the company. Brochures describing the plans and options are available at all school offices. The company also maintains a separate web site. The web site allows for online enrollment and provides plan and pricing information.
Free and Low-cost Health Insurance Options
In partnership with Boulder County, the District has provided a health insurance liaison to work with families to ensure that students are insured. This position will enroll eligible children, some parents, and pregnant women in Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+). Your family may qualify for CHP+ if over-income for Medicaid and cannot afford private insurance. Benefits include preventative care, immunizations, dental care, hospital services, prescriptions, mental health services, vision and more. For more information or an easy 15 minute screening for eligibility, please contact the District’s health insurance liaison by phone (720-722-1454).
Insurance Requirements - Athletes
Before any student will be permitted to participate in any CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association) sports activities, health or accident insurance (such as the insurance offered through the student insurance programs, detailed above) covering the student must be purchased or the Athletic Insurance Waiver must be signed. The Athletic Insurance Waiver can be obtained by contacting a high school athletic department secretary.
Liability claims against the District for injuries that occur at school or during schools activities may be barred by the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act (CGIA). This Act substantially limits the liability of the District. The details of the CGIA are available in the Colorado statute (Title 24, Article 10).
