Dear St. Vrain Valley Community,
It has been an outstanding start to the academic year and I want to thank our students, families, teachers, staff and other partners for continuing to support St. Vrain Valley Schools’ drive for excellence in serving our community and advancing public education.
Title I Additional Information
Title I is a program funded through the United States Department of Education under No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Title I, Part A, provides resources to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to get a quality education, resulting in their attainment of high academic standards. Title I targets resources to districts and schools whose needs are the greatest. The program is the largest federal program supporting both elementary and secondary education, and allocates its resources based upon the poverty rates of students enrolled in schools and districts.
Essentially, Title I focuses on: (1) promoting school wide reform in high-poverty schools and (2) ensuring students' access to scientifically based instructional strategies and challenging academic content.
St. Vrain Valley School District currently has five Title I schools. They are: Columbine, Indian Peaks, Northridge, Rocky Mountain, and Timberline K-8 School. All five schools are identified as Targeted Assistance (TA) programs.
Title I, Part A, funds in these targeted assistance schools are used in the following ways:
- To provide services to eligible children identified by the school as most at risk of failing to meet the state's academic content standards
- To supplement the services that would be provided by nonfederal sources, in the absence of the Title I, Part A funds with the addition of approximately four additional reading teachers at each school
- To support methods and instructional strategies that are proven to be effective and that strengthen the core curriculum
